Calcium hydroxide is a white powdery solid. Chemical formula Ca (OH) ₂, commonly known as hydrated lime and lime hydrate, aqueous solution called clarify whitewash. Calcium hydroxide is a strong base with alkali properties. Calcium hydroxide is a binary strong base, but is only slightly soluble in water. Calcium hydroxide is widely used in industry.
Clinical application of
The clinical application of calcium hydroxide is mainly applied in the following three aspects:
First, live pulp resection. The purpose of live pulp resection is to remove the diseased crown pulp, preserve the healthy root pulp and the vitality of the tooth pulp, maintain the normal absorption and fragmentation of the deciduous tooth root, and promote the further development of the young permanent tooth root and the closure of the apical hole.
Second, apical induction angioplasty, when the young permanent tooth root is still in the stage of development, due to some reason, such as dental caries, deformity, trauma, etc., the pulp necrosis, the root stop development, resulting in the root tip is open. As for the treatment of this kind of teeth, it used to be very difficult for the stomatologists. Due to the large lumen of the root canal, it is very difficult to achieve complete debridement with the conventional method of reaming the root canal, and it is almost impossible to make the root canal fill tightly.
Since the 1960s, a great deal of research work has been done abroad in this field, which changed the previous method of simple mechanical filling, but promoted the development of the root tip to the new way of blocking the root tip, and achieved remarkable results. The root tip is first medicated and sealed, and then the root canal is filled. This is called apical induction. At present, the drug with better effect is the preparation containing calcium hydroxide.
Third, pulp capping is the treatment of directly covering the exposed pulp with drugs to promote pulp healing and repair. It is usually suitable for healthy and novel pulp exposure.
